ExpoCards

Help and support

Most questions are answered below. If yours is not, write to us. ExpoCards is made by one person, and that person reads and answers every email.

Contact

Email: help@expocards.app

We aim to reply within two working days.

It helps if you tell us:

  • what you were doing, and what happened instead;
  • which phone and browser you use;
  • the line at the bottom of Settings, under “About”. It shows the app version. Tap it to copy your anonymous account id, which we need for any question about scans.

There is no need to send photos of cards. They hold other people's details, so only send one if we ask for it.

Scanning

There is no signal. Can I still scan?

Yes, keep photographing. Reading a card needs an internet connection, because cards are read on our server and not on your phone. But the photo is saved on your phone before anything else happens, so nothing is lost. It waits in a queue, the Contacts tab shows how many cards are waiting, and they are read automatically once you are back online. “Read them now” does the same by hand.

Everything else works with no connection: viewing, editing, searching and exporting your contacts.

A card was read wrongly

You can correct any field on the review screen before you save, and later with Edit. A card that was hard to read is flagged so you know to check it twice. Glare, blur and shadows cause most mistakes: lay the card flat, in even light, and fill the frame with it. If the card has a second side, add the back and both sides become one contact.

Which languages can it read?

Spanish, German, Dutch, Arabic, Chinese and more, including cards printed in two languages at once. Names, companies and job titles are kept as printed rather than translated.

The app's own menus and buttons are in English.

I have run out of scans

The free scans renew every month: 10 in the month of your first scan, then 5 a month. Settings shows how many are left. Until they renew, new cards wait safely in the queue and are read when scans are available again. The contacts you already have are never locked, limited or hidden: viewing, editing, searching and exporting stay free. Paid options are in the ExpoCards iPhone app, as in-app purchases; the web app and the Android app have the free scans only.

Your data

What happens to the photos of my cards?

Each photo is saved on your device first. To be read, it is sent over an encrypted connection to our server together with a random anonymous id that counts your scans. Our server passes the photo to Anthropic's Claude AI, sends the result back to you and does not keep the photo. Anthropic does not train its models on it. The reading is done entirely by software: nobody transcribes your cards by hand.

The copy on your device stays with the contact until you delete the contact or erase everything.

Which export formats are there?

Excel (.xlsx), CSV and vCard (.vcf). On the Contacts tab, the CSV and Excel buttons export the list you are looking at: every contact, or only the event you have filtered. Settings has the same under “Export”, plus vCards for the whole list. From a single contact, “Save to phone” shares it as a vCard with the card photo attached, ready for your phone's address book or a colleague's.

Export is never limited and never charged for.

How do I move my contacts to another phone or computer?

In Settings, under “Backup”, tap “Download backup”. You get one file holding every contact, photo and setting. Send that file to the other device, open ExpoCards there, and choose “Restore…” in the same place. Restoring adds to what is already there. It never deletes anything.

To take contacts into another program instead, such as a spreadsheet, a CRM or your address book, use the Excel, CSV or vCard export.

How do I delete everything?

One contact: open it and tap Delete. Its photos go with it.

Everything: in Settings, under “About”, tap “Erase all data”. It removes every contact, photo and setting from the device, along with your anonymous account id. It cannot be undone, so download a backup first if you may want the contacts later. Removing the app, or clearing the site's data in your browser, does the same.

We hold no contacts and no photos, so there is nothing of that kind to delete on our side. Our server keeps only a count of scans against the anonymous id. If you want that removed too, copy the id and email it to us before you erase.

What is “Team sync” in Settings?

It is optional, and off unless you switch it on. It is for teams that run their own Supabase database: you enter the details of a project that you own, and colleagues who do the same see the same contacts. It is not an account with us, and we have no access to that database. Leave it off and your contacts are stored only on your device.

How many scans does the Event Pass include?

Up to 3,000 scans in the 4 days from the moment you buy it (fair use). Settings shows how many it has left. After 3,000, scanning carries on from your banked scans and then this month's free scans, as if there were no pass.

I bought scans and cannot see them

A purchase belongs to the anonymous account id of the browser or app you bought it in, so scans bought on the website do not show in the app, and the other way round. They do not move to another browser or phone by themselves, and “Erase all data”, deleting the app or clearing the browser's site data removes the id. Bought in the Android app? Payment happens in your browser: go back to the app afterwards and the scans show in Settings within a few seconds. Bought in the iPhone app? Open the app with a connection: a purchase that has not arrived yet is added then. Still missing? Write to us with the id (Settings, under “About”) or your receipt and we will help.

How do I get a refund?

Bought in the iPhone app: refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, not by us. Ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Bought on the website, or in the Android app from our website: write to help@expocards.app within 14 days of buying, with your receipt or your account id (Settings, under “About”). If you have not used the purchase, we refund it in full; if you have used part of a scan pack, we refund the part you have not used. The money goes back to the payment method you used.

If you are a consumer in the UK or the EU, you normally also have a legal right to cancel within 14 days. The details are in the terms of use, section 6.

Installing

How do I add the web app to my Home Screen?

On an iPhone, open the web app in Safari, tap the Share button and choose “Add to Home Screen”. On Android, open it in Chrome, tap the ⋮ menu and choose “Add to Home screen” or “Install app”. It then opens from its own icon like any other app.

Ayuda y soporte

Contacto

Correo: help@expocards.app

  • qué estabas haciendo y qué ha ocurrido;
  • qué móvil y qué navegador usas;

«Read them now» (leerlas ahora) hace lo mismo a mano.

Me he quedado sin escaneos

Excel (.xlsx), CSV y vCard (.vcf).

He comprado escaneos y no me aparecen
